Topics of Neighborhood Crime, Security and Safety
  • Keep a keen eye for any package deliveries as "Grab the package contents and toss the packaging on the lawn" is currently in vogue.
  • Keep all downstairs doors and windows closed AND locked, especially when you are upstairs.
  • Watch your mailboxes as mail theft is on the rise.
  • Consider security cameras and barking dogs as deterrents to burglaries, etc.  Visible locked side gates are a MUST deterrent.
  • If your gut tells you that you are witnessing suspicious activity, assume that it is just that!  Take a photo of it (if you can) and pass on a photo AND/OR a short narrative of what you observed via email to fellow neighborhood watch members.  If it is really concerning issue, call the San Jose Police Department (SJPD) immediately.
  • If you have an emergency situation while at home and need to call SJPD from your cell phone, dial SJPD Emergency at (408) 277-8911 for quicker answering.  Calling 9-1-1 from a cell phone while at home will delay reaching SJPD as 9-1-1 calls are routed to the CHP, with a short delay in reaching SJPD.
